Throwback barrettes

These barrettes were inspired by an old Family fun magazine. When I saw them my 80’s childhood flashed through my mind, and I knew that the girls and I would have to make some. But we “blinged” ours up a bit.  It was really nice to share something with them that brought back so many good memories.

And this is how you do it.  First you’ll need some ribbon one or two colors. and a barrette like this one.
014
Thread the ribbon to the back of the barrette.
015
Thread the ribbon over one side and then under the other side of the barrette. Continue till the end.

We just used a little hot glue on the end of the blue one to hold it all in place, we trimmed the extra ribbon and then we added a snowflake button.  On the red one we left some ribbon hanging down we also used hot glue to hold the ends in place.

I totally made these in the 80's! Great memories - if only Sammi would leave the hair barrettes in...maybe in a few years?! I guess I could make them for me, but what would people say...hmmm....it just might be worth it! :) Thanks for the flashback! Love ya!

So good to find another reader who loves family fun ideas! I keep how-to's etc from old issue's of it in a three ring binder with page protecters. So many amazing idea's, but I realy don't have room to store all the old issue's of magazine's. I've got a lot of them pagemarked for kids sciece projects when my kids are a little older :)

Oh, oh! I remember making these and wearing them when I was little! My daughter is 10 - and thinks everything 80's is so cool, I think we'll be whipping some of these out soon!

I made these for my granddaughter in 2007 but used only one colour ribbon. Love the idea of the two colours. Great tutorial too!

My mama used to make these for me when I was in preschool. I had forgotten about them, though - I'll have to make some for my own little girls!

So funny! I'm visiting from a link at Joy in My Kitchen for sweet potato bread.

When I saw the title of this post, I had a mental picture of these barrettes. Wonder if my DD would like to try to make them.
