We have 5 kids and a living room with basically white carpet. Those two things just really don’t mix. For the last 6 years we have been routinely cleaning our carpets, to try and fight the high traffic dirt AND we even bought a carpet cleaner so we wouldn’t have to rent one anymore. (BISSEL carpet cleaners ROCK). And on and off for the last few years we have talked about taking out the carpet and replacing it with laminate. This past weekend we finally did… I LOVE IT! It turned out so great and it wasn’t too much of a headache we had a couple of friends come over and help.
Old nasty carpet with old nasty trim.
After we torn out the carpet, pad and tack strips, I spent the day repainting everything. I just repainted the same color but it made a HUGE difference. Everything looks so fresh and clean again!
And this is how it looks now. Great eh? I wish I could have gotten pictures before they put the furniture back in, but alas I didn’t.
We replaced our old nasty trim with new taller trim, I love how that turned out too. I kind of have a new look planned for this room, hopefully it will all come together.
New trim, I still have to do the touch up work on the trim but you get the idea.

Love that floor (& the new paint)! I know you are enjoying it. I'm sure it's so much easier to keep clean than carpet too! Thanks for linking up!
Such a nice transformation, looks great!
Great job! As for a rug, try Ikea, JC Penney, and QVC. I have bought some from JC Penney online in the past and the ones I got were plain, but came with a nonslip backing and could be machine washed (in a big washer).
thanks Emma!
White carpet is one of those ideas that rarely work in reality. Your new floor looks great!
for rugs, Overstock.com is great! Also ebay...
Looks beautiful. I have a post planned for latter this week about do-it-yourself rugs. Keep an eye out for it. I'm your newest follower. Be sure to stop by my blog Monday and add your project to the More The Merrier Monday Link Party.

OMG.. your new floor looks wonderful and made me even more excited than I already am.. I bought mine today and it's all stacked in boxes along my hallway floor.. waiting for us to get to it! The entire downstairs will be redone..I'm understanding the excitement when I pulled my ucky carpet also... by the way, my new throw rug came from Ikea and the prices are half that of other stores.. Good luck to you!
Sandy
Looks great. The new trim looks great. Try IKEA, Tuesday Morning and Overstock.com for the rug...best prices we've found.
We are currently doing the same thing. we had a very light cream carpet and over 65 foster kids. I kept it pretty for a few years, but we have been renting it out for the last year and well the renters destroyed it with the 14 puppies there dog had. but now I get my new floors we have 2000 sf to lay, lol, and that is before hubby goes to a new duty station in a month. I have bought a found some seriously cute, high quality wool rugs at tuesday morning, tj max, marshalls and ross for very low prices, try those places.
My huby went to work and came home and I had pulled up the carpet. I have the same floor as you and I love it too.
That looks so much better. Thanks for sharing. I like shopping for rugs at overstock.com The shipping is really cheap and they have a huge selection.
Great job on the floor and trim! I bought my rug from homedecorators.com. They have a ton of selection, and the one I ordered looks great. Mine is a wool rug and it shed a little at first, but not much anymore.
go to a carpet store and find a piece that you love-ask for remnants and seal the edges-custom throw rugs! They will usually give you what they have or sell it cheap cheap cheap!
We did this a year ago too. My living room carpet was beyond ick. I'm so happy with the wood laminate. Now keeping that clean is a pain cause we did the whole floor with it. It's a group effort here. lol
I made the exact same change in my own room just two years ago. My bedroom was carpeted for 10 years, and when my father said we finally had enough money to do some major renovations in the house, I decided to finally get the carpet stripped off and replaced with laminates, and I so am much happier with it. Laminates can affect not only the look of a room, but also the temperature of it. Carpets tend to be a little warmer, but laminates don’t absorb heat. Laminates also take less effort to clean than carpets.
