Living room makeover project #4 End table

I found this piece at the same time I found my awesome sewing chair.  I have wanted a end table for a while and I loved this one because it has two little drawers in it, perfect for storing my magazines and other books.  I recently bought a new rug for my living room and I loved the leaf patterns all throughout the rug so I thought I would incorporate the leaves into my end table.  I again used clear contact paper to get the look I wanted.  Who knew contact paper was so cool.

The End Table

First thing I did was sand it down and paint the top of it white the color I wanted the leaf to be.

Then I found a leaf in the carpet that I wanted to copy.  If you look real close you can see the contact paper over the leaf.  I copied it with black Sharpie.

Then I cut it out and placed it on the top of the end table.

Then I painted over it with dark chocolate brown.

Then I rubbed stain all over the end table so that the white wasn’t so bright.

Sewing Chair Makeover

Since I had an awesome new sewing table, I wanted to get a chair to got with it.  I found this chair at the thrift store for a couple of bucks and I really loved the overall look of it but it was in need of a  little bit of a makeover.  I found some awesome fabric at Wal-Mart and I knew that it would be the inspirations for my chair/sewing table. I’m very happy with the results.

Sewing Table Makeover

Living room makeover project #2 Sewing Table.

I was trolling Craigslist one day and I found this awesome sewing table.  I fell in love with it.  I just loved the style and it’s overall look, I knew when I saw it that I wanted it.  I really am happy with the end results.

My hubby sanded it down for me, and then I painted it, I love the contrast of the black top with the white underneath.  Then I sanded part of the paint off and rubbed stain all over it including the top, then wiped it off, rubbed it on wiped it off you know the drill.

I love the original hardware, but they needed a little help so I spray painted those a nice silver and let some of the old color shine through on the edges for a little bit of contrast.

Burnt Lunch Sack Wreath / how to

For the next little while I’m going to be showing you some projects I have been working on to change the overall look of our living room.  We got new flooring a couple of weeks ago and I found an awesome piece of furniture on craigslist and it all just snowballed from there. First I’m going to post all of the different little projects and then I’ll show you the final result.  This first project isn’t a new idea, just one I loved the look of. 

BURNT LUNCH SACK WREATH

I LOVE how this wreath looks, but I also LOVE how much it cost me to make. Less than $2.00!  All you need is a wreath I got mine from the dollar store and some lunch sacks (brown or white would be cool too).  Plus hot glue and something it hang it by like ribbon. 

First I put a loop around the wreath so I would have something to hang it by.

Then I took a few lunch sacks folded them in half and cut out semicircles.  Like so

then I just formed them into little cones and hot glued them to the wreath.  I liked using this type of wreath because it was easy to put them into the little spaces. 

Just keep doing it over and over and over, until you really can’t stand it anymore are finished.

When I got to the top I placed the ribbon through the loop so I would have something to hang it by.

After I was done I like how it look but I felt like it needed something.  I was thinking maybe I should have dipped the ends in paint or something.  Then I realized I could get the same effect just by burning the ends of the paper.   At this point the wreath is completely finished, so I was kinda concerned about lighting the whole thing on fire, but in the end I think it was better to do it all at once. That way you’re not holding a tiny little paper and trying not to burn your fingers.  Though I would recommend not doing it in your house while the wreath is hanging on your pantry door.  NOT that I would ever do anything like that.  I just lit little sections on fire at a time and quickly blew them out.  It was pretty exciting.

I really liked how it looked but I still wanted a little something more for the overall look of the room, then I remembered I had gotten these black metal letters on clearance at Michaels for 30 cents and I’m VERY happy with the end result.

Creepy Leprechaun Shirt

I made my girls Valentine outfits, so I told my son I would make him a St. Patrick’s Day shirt.  He decided he wanted a Leprechaun.  So I dug out a picture of a leprechaun and off we went to the fabric store.  I let Mr. T pick out all of the colors for his Leprechaun.  I loved all of his choices except the yellow fabric he picked for the face.  But he talked me into it with this little conversation.  Me- “okay, buddy what color do you want for his skin?”  Mr. T looks around for a while and chooses yellow.  Me- “Don’t you want something more skin color?”  Mr. T  “No, I like yellow.”  Me- “Umm, your leprechaun might look a little weird and creepy.” Mr. T- “That’s ok mom, it’s not like leprechauns are real.”  Me- “Right you are buddy, yellow it is.”

BUT I ALSO WANTED TO SHARE WITH YOU SOMETHING I TRIED THAT WORKED SO AWESOME!!

I’m not an artist in any sense of the word, so I was really concerned with the Leprechauns face.  I wasn’t sure how in the world I could get his face to look good. But as I was using the iron on bonding stuff (the no sew variety), I realized that if made the fabric really stiff and I wondered if I could put that through my printer,( I just got done putting contact paper through my printer with great results so I thought I would give it a try).

The verdict…IT WORKS AWESOME!! This is how I did it.

You’ll need a picture of a leprechaun

An assortment of fabric colors and HeatnBond ultrahold iron-on adhesive.

Follow the package directions for the first step, applying the heat n bond to your fabric.

Then cut our your face and place it face down on your copier.  Then feed your material (with heat n bond on it) through your printer.  Make sure that it prints the face on your material and not on the heat n bond.

Continue with the rest of the leprechaun.  I didn’t put all of the pieces through the printer just the ones I wanted more detail on.  Follow the package directions for applying all of the pieces to a shirt.

And there you have a creepy yellow faced leprechaun.  But not that it matter because it’s not like Leprechauns are real…

Flowerpot Trashcan

Since we got our new floor a couple of weeks ago, I have been on a little bit of a mission to redo the look of our home.  One of the rooms I tackled was our half bath.  I love it so far but it’s not ready for the big reveal, but I wanted to show you one of the projects I made for it, that was SUPER easy and turned out great.  And that was the trashcan.  I wanted something cute, but trashcans that are cute are spendy.  I wasn’t about to spend $20 + dollars on a trashcan so I improvised and used a flowerpot instead.
The original flowerpot wasn’t white, but I wanted white flowers so I spray painted a little bit of it white.
 
I’m not one of those lucky people who do vinyl stuff, and I don’t know anyone who does so I had to improvised. I found a flower that I like in my clipart and printed in out on clear contact paper.  Then I cut it out, peeled off the back and placed it on the flower pot. 

Then I spray painted it with a metallic brown spray paint. I did two flowers one on each side.  I love how it turned out!
