Box of Crayons Cake

I have been trying to convince one of my children to have this cake forever but to no avail. So I made it yesterday for Baby M’s first birthday!

025

Here is what you need

Some cake cones that you cut in half.

Then you cover them in colored melting candies or you could use icing.

I actually printed off a big picture of a crayon box and used melting candy to replicate the parts that I wanted…

011

kind of like this.  I wanted to use the candy so it looked more like a box of crayons and the colors were perfect BUT  it had a little accident and broke all to bits, it was a little case of to many cooks in the kitchen. (so, so sad)

022

you’ll also need a 9 x 13 cake.

023

Cut a section out of the top of the cake for the crayons to sit on.

024

So instead of my melting candy box that I wanted to use.  I had to use icing.  The green is all wrong and next time (if there is a next time) I think I would try fondant.

But you get the idea.

What a cute idea! My baby is only 7 weeks right now so I'll put off planning what her first cake will be. I love the idea of using ice cream cones though they are the perfect shape!

"Wrong" green or not, that cake is adorable! If you try it with icing again, try Wilton gel in the tube to color the icing. I can usually get a darker green with that. Either way, that cake is very cute and creative, so you should be happy with it!
